Membership Requirements

Information required from applicants that wish to apply for membership of the Textile Recycling Association.

In order to ensure that applications to the association are considered in a fair, consistent and transparent manner we ask that all applicants submit the following information when they make their application.

  1. A valid Waste Carriers Licence if applicable (available from the Environment Agency – England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency)*.
  2. A Environmental Permit (or Exemption) if applicable (Exemptions are available from the Environment Agency – England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency)*.
  3. To be based at a fixed premises and be paying business rates or to have business rates included in any rent they pay to a landlord.
  4. Employers liability insurance and public liability insurance. Both these types of insurance policies to provide an appropriate level of cover based on size of company and industry requirements.
  5. Written health a safety policy and appropriate risk assessments.
  6. Written Fire Risk Assessment
  7. Be trading legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of three years. Organisations which have traded legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of one year but less than three years can apply to be associate members.
  8. A GDPR policy
  9. An Anti-slavery Policy and Equal Opportunity Policy
  10. Be an industry appropriate company.
  11. Comply with the TRA- Textiles Recycling Associations ‘Code of Practice’

* required only if your business transports or handles textile waste and/or other waste streams.

All members of the Textiles Recycling Association are required to have these requirements in place.

Each applicant for full membership is required to have traded legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of three years. Organisations which have traded legally and in a solvent manner for a minimum period of one year but less than three years can apply to be associate members.

All members will be subject to auditing, site visits on a regular basis and will be required annually to provide copies of documents as requested.
